Sinusitis

Overview

Sinusitis is inflammation of the sinuses, usually following a cold, causing facial pain, pressure and a blocked or runny nose. Most cases improve on their own within 2–3 weeks.

Common symptoms

• Facial pain or pressure, especially around the nose, cheeks or forehead
• Blocked or runny nose
• Reduced sense of smell
• Symptoms lasting more than 10 days

What to expect

Your pharmacist will ask about your symptoms and how long you've had them, then advise on self-care or, if appropriate, a prescription-only nasal spray or antibiotics.
